This is a verse by verse audio teaching of Revelation 2:1-7. Jesus is the One who is holding the seven stars in His right hand and He is walking in the midst of His seven churches. He says, "I know your works." He says this to every church. Jesus is intimately acquainted with every detail in the life of the church and its leaders. The Ephesian church was doing many good things - fighting against evil, discerning false ministers, patiently enduring for Christ's sake, and laboring to the point of exhaustion. They had one big problem - they abandoned agape love for the Lord and His people! This was a very serious error. Jesus threatens this church with extinction! Repent or else! If you don't do the first works you will lose your first love. The Lord commended them for hating the practices of the Nicolaitans - practices that Jesus also hated. Even though they command to love again, they must not lose hating evil. Those who love the Lord must hate evil. The great motivation to be an overcomer is eternal life, pictured for this church as the tree of life that is in the midst of God's paradise.
