This is a verse by verse audio teaching of Revelation 3:7-13. Jesus presents Himself to this church as "The Holy One" and "The True One." Jesus is separate from sinners and His essential character is holiness. He is also completely reliable and faithful. He is true to His promises. He continues to possess "the key of David" which represents His authority of the Messianic kingdom. No one gets into the kingdom of God except through Jesus. The "open door" could be a door of evangelism or opportunity," or more in line with the context, it means entrance into the kingdom of Messiah, the Davidic kingdom over which Jesus is Lord. Even though the Philadelphian Christians are small in number and probably influence, they have kept the Lord's commands and have not denied His name. The main opposition was not from within but from without. It was the Jewish people that lived in that city. What a sad fall for the Jews living there. The Lord would take them through the "hour of trial" that would come upon the world. He would not allow them to fail. He commands them to "hold fast" and not allow "anyone to take your crown." Areas of victory can be lost if we're not vigilant. "My God" is mentioned 4 times in 3:12. What a rich, eternal inheritance the overcome has in the kingdom of God.
